Gideon Who Has Been Chosen

Judges 6

1. Life that fails (6:1-6)

1) Man becomes powerless when he commits a sin (1)

 

- Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD, and for seven years he gave them into the hands of the Midianites

- Confirm identity of Children of God- Gen. 1:28

2) When you have no power you become miserable (2-6)

- People of Israel (Experienced the miracles)

- Josh. 1:3 - I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.

- Jud. 6:1 - Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD

 

<p>2. Repentance is Life (6:7-10)</p><p> </p>1) God waits for our repentance through the pain that He gives (7)

 

- Jud. 6:2 - Because the power of Midian was so oppressive

- Jud. 6:7 - When the Israelites cried to the LORD because of Midian

- But the real problem is the people who do not cry out to the LORD even when face hardships

2) God waits for our repentance through the prophet (Words) (8-10)

 

<p>3. Gideon who has been chosen (6:11-24)</p><p> </p>1) Choice is God's sovereignty (11-28)

 

- John15:16 - You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit - fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.

- The meaning of a name Gideon is 'A wood cutter'

   - Jud. 6:12 - When the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon, he said, "The LORD is with you, mighty warrior."

   (1) Son of Canaan family - Wood cutter

   (2) Threshed wheat in a winepress - Person who works hard (11)

   (3) One who is humber (15)

   (4) One who obeys God (22)

        - When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the LORD, he exclaimed, "Ah, Sovereign LORD! I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face!"

2) Confession of Faith through offerings (19-24)

- Jud. 6:17 - Gideon replied, "If now I have found favor in your eyes, give me a sign that it is really you talking to me."

- Jud. 6:18 - "Please do not go away until I come back and bring my offering and set it before you."

- Jud. 6:19 - Gideon went in, prepared a young goat, and from an ephah of flour he made bread without yeast. Putting the meat in a basket and its broth in a pot, he brought them out and offered them to him under the oak.

 

<p>4. Gideon, a devotional person who staked his life (6:25-35)</p><p> </p>1) One who is in pain and unhappiness -> Break down the idols (25-28)

 

2) Be ready for the persecution (28-32)

 

<p>5. Pray for the victory (6:36-40)</p><p> </p>1) Hold on to the covenant and pray

 

2) Seek for a sign (37-39)

3) Fear and respect God (39)

- "Do not be angry with me."

 

 

Conclusion

- Jer. 33:3 - Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.
