1. Greed that destroys human (Jud.9:1-6)

- James 1:15 – Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

- Col. 3:5 – Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature; sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.

1) Abimelech had evil greed (9:1-5)

2) Fulfillment of greed (9:6)

2. Those who know self-existence and those who don’t (Jud. 9:7-15)

1) 3 trees that didn’t lose hold of their existence (9:8-13)

(1) Olive tree

(2) Fig tree

(3) Vine tree

2) Thorn bush that didn’t know its existence (9:14-15)

- If you really want to anoint me king over you, come and take refuge in my shade; but if not, then let fire come out of the thornbush and consume the cedars of Lebanon!

3. Jotham who prophesize

1) Prophesized to citizens of Shechem

- Phil 1:10 – So that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ.

- Rom 12:2 – Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.

4. Fields of evil people (Jud. 9:22-49)

1) God allowed evil spirit between Abimelech and citizens of Shechem (9:23)

The helpers of Abimelech who did evil things (9:24)

2) Rebellion of citizens of Shechem

3) Gaal, son of Ebed

4) Zebul, the governor of the city announced to Abimelech

5) Abimelech pressed his attack against the city and destroyed the city and scattered salt over it.

5. Life conclusion of Abimelech (Jud. 9:50-57)

- Jud. 9:56 – Thus God repaid the wickedness that Abimelech had done to his father by murdering his seventy brothers.
