[111030] When I Admit I Am Lacking (1Sam. 9:11-24)

1. Why did Israelites want a king (Monarchy)?

1) They saw the priest Samuel was old and had failed on raising his children (1Sam 8:1-5)

2) They wanted a king who could rule over Israel (Monarchy)

3) Samuel was not happy about it (1Sam 8:7)

- 1Sam 8:8 – As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. (Unbelief)

4) God allowed a monarchy in Israel

5) Samuel told the Israelites that there will be hardships after the monarchy (1Sam 8:10-17)

- When we discard our idols, put our hearts to only God, and only do the Mizpah movement, our lives will be well (1Sam 7:8) 

2. Saul was invited to be a king in Israel (1Sam 9:1-27)

1) 1Sam 9:1 – Family background

2) 1Sam 9:2 – An impressive young man

3) 1Sam 9:3 – Personality (He was recognized by his father)

4) 1Sam 9:4 – Had an integrity

5) 1Sam 9:5 – Was thinking about his father at home (Consideration)

6) 1Sam 9:6 – He listened to his servant

7) 1Sam 9:7 – Had respect

8) 1Sam 9:15-19 – Saul met Samuel

9) 1Sam 9:20 – Samuel’s prophecy

10) 1Sam 9:21 – Saul answered, “But am I not a Benjamite, from the smallest tribe of Israel, and is not my clan the least of all the clans of the tribe of Benjamin? Why do you say such a thing to me?”

11) 1Sam 9:11-24 – Samuel ate the cooked leg only served to priests with Saul and affirmed that Saul was qualified to be a king

- Even though Israelites asked for physical things, He still answers because they are children of God.

1. Enjoy identity of being child of God (With holding onto the Word and Covenant)
2. Apply and use His authority (Answers to a prayer)
3. Be a witness of the evangelism fields (Experience God’s power)
